I translate ideas and feelings into visual metaphors, working across typography, graphic identities and object design

About me

post

I’m Inessa Danielyan, a graphic and object design student at HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL. I’m interested in the way a project can communicate a feeling before its idea is fully explained. I look for visual metaphors that can grow into typography, colour, composition or an object’s form.I’m looking for an internship at a multidisciplinary design studio, where I can contribute to projects and develop my practice through feedback

My approach

I pay particular attention to the character of a project: what it suggests, how it feels and what makes it memorable. A metaphor helps me connect that impression with a design decision. In the selected work, this becomes the opening of a calendar, the melting of a letterform and the fold of a furniture concept

Fabergé Calendar

Editorial design and paper-object study My role: concept and design

post

Brief: This student project translates the idea of a Fabergé egg into a calendar. The challenge was to make the reference part of the way the object is used, while keeping the dates organised and the months recognisable. I wanted the connection with the subject to appear in the structure as well as the graphics.Idea: I focused on the act of opening. Each new month becomes a small reveal, with two flaps recalling the anticipation of discovering what is inside an egg. The metaphor connects the calendar’s subject with an everyday action, giving the object a more personal character. Solution: The two flaps and egg-shaped cut-out define how the calendar opens. The date layout follows a circular structure, while each month uses a colour combination connected to a different Fabergé egg. Short texts about the craft add another layer to the calendar.

Outcome: The result is an editorial object in which typography, colour and construction support the same idea. The project shows how I connect graphic organisation with a physical interaction, using a visual metaphor to give a familiar format its own character.

Experimental identity study My role: concept, AI direction and graphic applications Letterforms generated with AI; applications shown as mockups

Исходный размер 2880x1620
post

Brief: This identity study was based on an assignment in which the alphabet was created with AI. My task was to develop a concept for the letterforms and use the result in graphic applications. The challenge was to create a shared character across the study, so the letters and their applications would feel connected. Idea: I chose melting chrome as a metaphor for transformation. The letters appear to be between two states: they still suggest familiar structures, while their outlines become fluid and unstable. The reflective surface connects the forms through a shared material character and gives the identity a feeling of movement.Solution: The alphabet brings together irregular contours, reflective surfaces and a consistent material treatment. I carried these characteristics into the graphic applications, using the letterforms as the main visual element. Changes in scale and composition allow the same visual language to work across different presentation formats.

Outcome: The result is an identity study that connects an experimental alphabet with graphic applications. The mockups show how the visual language could extend across formats. My contribution combines conceptual direction, work with AI-generated material and the development of applications around a shared visual idea.

ORI

Furniture and lighting concept My role: original sketches and AI-assisted design exploration Concept visualisations; no physical prototype

post

Brief: ORI is a concept collection of furniture and lighting. I wanted to explore how one formal idea could connect different objects while allowing each piece to keep its own function and proportions. The challenge was to create a shared character through geometry, rather than through repeated decoration. Idea: The collection takes the fold as its starting point. A flat plane suggests a volume through a change of direction, an edge or a facet. I used this idea as a common language for the chair, table, bed and light, linking the collection through its geometry.Solution: I used my sketches as the starting point for AI-assisted design exploration. The visualisations develop the folded geometry across furniture and lighting, making it possible to compare the collection’s shapes and proportions within an interior. The shared facets and edges carry the idea from one object to another.

Исходный размер 2880x1620

Outcome: The outcome is a concept collection presented through AI-assisted visualisations. No physical prototype has been made. The project demonstrates an approach to form and atmosphere, while construction, materials and ergonomics remain questions for further development and testing.

What I can bring to a studio?

The selected projects show how I connect a visual idea with typography, layout and form. I would like to contribute to visual research, concept development and the presentation of graphic and object projects.I’m interested in a studio environment where I can put these skills into practice, learn from feedback and develop my approach through work with a team.
