Makerere University is Uganda’s largest and oldest public institution of higher learning, originally established as a humble technical school
in 1922. Headquartered in the capital city of Kampala, it stands as the oldest currently active university in East Africa.
Often historically referred to as the «Harvard of Africa» due to its rich
post-independence intellectual environment, Makerere has served as a critical incubator for African leadership and literary movements.
Possible tasks
There is a great opportunity to create a family of street furniture that can help students attain a more comfortable environment with easy power access and stable internet to continue working even while outside the classrooms. The furniture will include chairs and tables with charging ports and stable WiFi routers. Due to the sunny weather in Kampala the use of the pergolas will be really important to create a more sophisticated shade for the users.

Makerere University is strategically located in central Uganda in the Capital Kampala. The country is renown for its cool sunny weather and relatively green environments which do not change at any point of time. Besides savanna rain that always comes during the rainy seasons the rest of the year is really pleasingly mid warm with soothing winds.
